Dr. LaMantia has been involved in emergency medicine residency education for 27 years, and with more than 25 years experience as a residency program director, is currently the most senior EM program director in the country. Dr. LaMantia has held numerous local, regional and national leadership positions in academic emergency medicine and has received grant funding in areas related to geriatric emergency medicine education, clinical skills and curriculum development, and the ACGME “Core Competencies.” He is a past member of the editorial boards of several emergency medicine journals, including Academic Emergency Medicine. Among other acknowledgements, he received the ACEP “Scientific Assembly Rookie Faculty of the Year Award” in 2000 and the ACEP National Emergency Medicine Faculty Teaching Award in 2009. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Council of Residency Program Directors in Emergency Medicine (CORD-EM).
His areas of interest include geriatric emergency medicine, the use of simulation in emergency medicine education, and resident evaluation.
